Operations & Performance Management Professional Certification

ASHRAE has developed the Operations & Performance Management Professional (OPMP ) program in close collaboration with APPA and GSA. Candidates who earn the OPMP certification will have demonstrated a well-rounded understanding and knowledge of the management of facility operations and maintenance and their impact on HVAC&R systems' performance.

Any individual who meets one of the following sets of academic and work experience criteria will be eligible to take the examination for the Operations & Performance Management Professional certification.

• Government-issued license as a professional engineer and a minimum of two (2) years' experience in facility operations
• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in one of the following areas: facilities operations/management, construction, design, or consulting, including a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in facility operations
• Associate’s degree or Technical degree or certificate in building design, construction, construction management, facility operation, or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in one of the following areas: facilities operations/management, construction, design, or consulting, including a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in facility operations
• High school diploma or equivalent or construction-related trades training or building operations training from a nationally or internationally recognized trade association with a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in one of the following areas: facilities operations/management, construction, design, or consulting, including a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in facility operations

Taking the Exam: Application and Administration

The OPMP examination is designed to assess an individual’s understanding of how the management of HVAC&R operations helps to achieve and maintain building performance goals. The first administration of the OPMP examination will take place January 2009 in Chicago, IL, in conjunction with ASHRAE’s Winter Meeting and AHR Expo. This first exam will be a pencil-and-paper test. After that, the examination will be available on computer at testing centers worldwide starting in March 2009 – so you’ll be able to take the exam at a location, on a date, and at a time most convenient to you.

Pricing Information

The examination for the OPMP program is $275 for ASHRAE members and $395 for non-members.
