ASHRAE Dues Program for Developing Economies

ASHRAE’s name may say “American,” but our work and membership tell a different story – and we want you to be a part of it. To encourage continued membership and participation in ASHRAE by engineers outside North America, the Society has launched a program that provides a decreased dues structure option for Member and Associate grades to our members who reside in countries categorized as developing economies by the World Bank List of Economies statistics.

By offering more affordable dues to members in developing economies, ASHRAE is fully engaging members globally to help expand our reach into countries that can contribute to and benefit from the technology and information sharing in the society.

ASHRAE encourages our qualifying members to take advantage of this program to help build those resources.

Questions you may have about the new program

Who is eligible for the program?
Members who reside in countries categorized as developing economies by the World Bank List of Economies statistics are eligible. Visit the World Bank's Web site for a list of low income /lower middle income countries.

What are the cost and benefits of this dues program?
The cost is $90 USD per year for members in eligible countries. The benefits of the new program will include: electronic-only monthly access to the ASHRAE Journal and ASHRAE Insights, and the annual ASHRAE Handbook in CD format.

Members can also pay $165 (USD) per year and receive the print copies of the ASHRAE Journal and the print copy of the annual ASHRAE Handbook.

When will the program be available?
Current members: current members with an anniversary date of July 1, 2008 or later will be eligible once the annual dues bills are mailed in March 2008.

New members: The program opens for new members on June 1, 2008.

What do I need to do to take advantage of this reduced dues structure?
For renewing members who live in a qualifying country, you must make sure your dues are current for your 2008 membership. When you renew for 2009, you will be given the $90 dues option online at www.ashrae.org. If you wish to continue paying $165 and still receive a printed copy of the Handbook and ASHRAE Journal, you can select that as an option. Both pricing options will be available on the paper membership dues bill you will receive in the mail if you choose to send in your renewal rather than renew online.
 

Why is ASHRAE offering reduced dues for developing economies?
The program is part of ASHRAE’s strategic plan, which calls for increasing our membership outside of the United States and making participation in the society more affordable and accessible to all individuals interested in ASHRAE membership.
