By George A. Jackins, P.E., Presidential/Fellow/Life Member ASHRAE, Chair, Honors and Awards CommitteeThe ASHRAE Honors and Awards Program is intended to make sure the Society gives credit to the thousands of loyal ASHRAE members who give freely of their time and expertise in an exceptional manner to “advance the arts and sciences of HVAC&R to serve humanity and promote a sustainable world.” Any successful organization has a way of rewarding those who contribute to its mission in a meaningful manner—so it is with ASHRAE. Our award winners exemplify the best in engineering and engineering technology by continually bringing credit to the profession and the Society. This year, the Honors and Awards Committee plans to publish a series of articles in ASHRAE Insights intended to help members use our programs successfully. Each article will highlight one or more awards and provide tips that may help nominees have the best chance for approval. We encourage interested persons to use www.ashrae.org/honors as a source of information to review criteria of an award or download a nomination form. An important piece of advice is to be certain that the nominee’s ASHRAE bio is up-to-date when the nomination is reviewed. An out-of-date bio can cause a nomination to be rejected. The ASHRAE Honors and Awards are: Personal Honors• ASHRAE Hall of Fame • F. Paul Anderson Award • Louise and Bill Holladay Distinguished Fellow Award • ASHRAE Fellow • Andrew T. Boggs Service Award • ASHRAE-ALCO Medal for Distinguished Public Service • E. K. Campbell Award of Merit • Honorary Member Personal Awards | |
