Students Produce Winning Designs for Future City Competition

WASHINGTON, D.C.—As a part of the National Engineers Week Future City Competition, ASHRAE sponsors awards that recognize middle-school students’ designs. ASHRAE National Capital Chapter members Stephanie Mages and Edward Donnelly interviewed the student teams and reviewed their displays to determine who would be the recipients of the ASHRAE awards. Valley Middle School in Oakland, N.J., received the Best Indoor Environment award. The team included (left photo, l.–r.) teacher Judith Vihonski, Alec Carpenter, Brandon Boccellari, Donnelly, James Kilmek, engineer mentor Michael McNally, P.E., and Mages. Milpitas Christian School in San Jose, Calif., was selected for the Most Sustainable Buildings award.
