Print This Email This

By Frederick H. Rohles Jr., Ph.D., Fellow/Life Member ASHRAE

As defined by ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 55-2004, Thermal Environmental Conditions for Human Occupancy, thermal comfort is "that condition of mind which expresses satisfaction with the thermal environment and is assessed by subjective evaluation." Here, the author, a noted psychologist, covers several aspects of this definition, such as the thermal environment itself, subjective evaluation, and occupants' condition of mind. This article has earned ASHRAE Journal's "Best Paper" award for 2007.
