Peter Alspach, P.E.
Peter Alspach is an associate principal with Arup, the mechanical discipline leader in Arup’s Seattle office, and Arup’s regional mechanical engineering skills leader. He is a specialist in the design of low-energy buildings, focusing on HVAC, energy systems, thermal comfort and the indoor environment. As a mechanical engineer, building physicist and façade engineer, Peter develops holistic solutions to the built environment. Outside of design engineering practice, Peter frequently lectures on sustainable design, thermal comfort, passive and hybrid building systems, and integrated design solutions. Peter is also a voting member of ASHRAE Standing Standard Project Committee 55, Thermal Environmental Conditions for Human Occupancy, and he has been an active industry advisor for several research and development projects. Peter has a BS in mechanical engineering from Washington University and a MS in civil engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Peter was honored in 2008 as one of Consulting and Specifying Engineer magazine’s “Top 40 under 40” for his work in sustainable design solutions.
