2014 ASHRAE/IBPSA-USA Building Simulation Conference
September 10-12, 2014
Atlanta, GA

General Information

ASHRAE and IBPSA-USA are convening this conference to improve the industry’s ability to accurately model building performance. The conference merges the IBPSA-USA SimBuild and ASHRAE Energy Modeling Conferences. The focus is on making better decisions through the application of simulation and modeling over the entire building life cycle from the earliest concept through operation and maintenance.

Technical Program

The theme of the conference is “BIM, BEM and SIM – Integrated Building Design and Modeling.” The conference brings together the building energy analysis and performance simulation community for three days of discussion, seminars, and short courses. Modelers, software developers, owners, and researchers will address the practices of energy modeling and building performance simulation using existing simulation tools, software development, and future simulation research and applications.

The technical program is comprised of three elements:

  1. Peer-reviewed Papers
Some 140 conference paper abstracts have been accepted for the conference and full paper submission is now underway. The papers address various aspects of building simulation, energy modeling and integrated building design topics.

  2. Application-based Presentations
  3. The conference seeks to meet the needs of day-to-day energy modeling and building simulation practicing professionals, especially in Integrated Building Design and Modeling.  Presenters selected from the industry as well as invited speakers will address the following topics:
    • State of the Art BIM
    • Design Firms
    • BIM in the Cloud
    • Codes and Rating Systems
    • Life Cycle Cost Analysis: Show Me the Money

  4. “Market-Reality Session” – Modeling Tools
This quick paced, information session with software developers gives attendees a finger on the pulse of current software capabilities and workarounds.  A panel of software developers answer questions on how their software performs specific functions.  This is a heavily interactive session.  Participants at the 2012 Energy Modeling Conference session were: EnergyPlus, TRNSYS, Trane, Carrier, IES, Sefaira and eQuest.

Pre-Conference Education
