NIST-ASCE-ASME Workshop

NIST-ASCE-ASME Workshop on Measurement Science for Sustainable Construction and Manufacturing

Jun 12  -  Jun 13
ASCE Bechtel Center

Achieving long-term suitability poses a linked-systems challenge for policy makers to assess the consequences, trade-offs and synergies in economic, environmental and social domains. A sustainable society can be defined as the one that can thrive over generations; one that is far-seeing enough, flexible enough, and wise enough not to undermine its economic, environmental and social systems of support. A major need for achieving sustainable construction and manufacturing is to establish meaningful measurements for the complex attributes of sustainability suitable for lifecycle considerations. What one can measure, one can manage. NIST, ASCE, ASME and the University of Maryland are holding a workshop to address this challenge.
