Texas A&M Meet and Greet

Student & Chapter Board Meet & Greet Proves to be Huge Success

The members of the Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi ASHRAE student branch organized a “meet and greet” event between engineering students, and the Board of Governors from the South Texas - Corpus Christi ASHRAE Chapter. A total of 32 students attended the event, as well as a variety of professionals including sales engineers, consulting engineers, mechanical contractors, facility directors and industry related business owners.

The goal of this event was to help familiarize the engineering students with the ASHRAE Student Branch.  Student Branch president and founder Donald Hay, assisted by Vice President Jose Gutierrez and Event Chairman Fidencio Lopez organized every aspect of the event which included reserving the room to purchasing pizza and drinks for those in attendance.

Each student in attendance was given the opportunity to visit with the variety of HVAC professionals that make up the South Texas Chapter BOG and to learn about some of the many different career opportunities that exist within the HVAC&R industry. After each student met with each BOG member present, their name was entered into a drawing for a Kindle Fire.

Overall, the event was a huge success. In addition to gaining an understanding of the HVAC industry, the event lead to the hiring of 2 students who attended that night into full time positions as HVAC designers by two different local Consulting Engineering Firms in Corpus Christi.
