ATLANTA – The issues and challenges surrounding the design, construction and operation of buildings in developing economies are the focus of an upcoming ASHRAE conference taking place in Manila, Philippines.

Organized by ASHRAE along with the Philippines Chapter, the Efficient, High Performance Buildings for Developing Economies Conference is being held April 24-25, 2014, in Makati, the central business district of Manila. It is co-sponsored by the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) and endorsed by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO). The Conference features speakers from some 12 countries, including architects, consulting engineers and prominent industry players.
Registration is now open for the Conference. To register or for more information, visit www.ashrae.org/Developing2014.

The design, construction and operation of energy efficient, high performance buildings in developing economies have been identified by the building industry and policymakers as a key area where technology, standards and other activities are needed.

“Our presenters and attendees will come together to address the challenges facing developing countries in sustainable construction, such as rapidly growing energy demand, population density and urbanization,” Ashish Rakheja, conference co-chair, said. “The conference focuses on aspects relating to design, construction and operation of high performance buildings, including the HVAC&R industry’s role in meeting this objective.”

The Conference features keynote presentations from speakers from four different countries, paper presentations and other presentations on applications for developing economy countries.

The topics addressed by the Conference are:

  • Back to Basics: Sustainable building Design
  • Back to Basics: Natural ventilation and Novel Air-Conditioning Approaches
