Annual Conference Tech Program to Feature New Format
The Technical Program at the 2013 ASHRAE Annual Conference in Denver will feature a new format: special hour-long interactive sessions with audience participation, followed by a networking coffee break. Also unique to the Denver Tech Program is the newly instituted Research Summit and an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) mini-conference. The Research Summit will bring together distinguished researchers to present and discuss the latest research results and techniques, and to forecast future research directions. The Integrated Project Delivery mini-conference, on Sunday and Monday, June 23–24, will address the evolving method of managing a project from conceptual design through to the operation and maintenance phase. The ASHRAE Annual Conference and Technical Program will be held at the Sheraton Denver Downtown, June 22–26. The Technical Program runs June 23–26.

ASHRAE to Present 119 Awards in Denver
One hundred nineteen people will be recognized by ASHRAE for their contributions to the Society and the building industry at the Society’s 2013 Annual Conference in Denver. ASHRAE's highest honors will be among the awards presented. The Andrew T. Boggs Service Award recognizes past recipients of the Distinguished Service Award for continuing unselfish, dedicated and distinguished service to the Society. It is awarded posthumously to Richard Charles, P.E., Presidential/Fellow/Life Member ASHRAE. The Exceptional Service Award recognizes Distinguished Service Award recipients who have continued to serve the Society faithfully and with exemplary effort. Fourteen recipients will be recognized. In addition, 61 members will be presented the Distinguished Service Award, which salutes members for giving freely of their time and talent to the Society.

STROVOLOS, Cyprus—A chartering ceremony for the Cyprus section was earlier this spring in Strovolos, Cyprus’ second largest city. Eighteen members and invitees attended, including the mayor of Strovolos, Dr. Lazaros Savvides, and the former mayor. Also in attenance was the chair of the Cypriot mechanical engineers association, Eliza Vasiliou. Paris Lenas, an ASHRAE Fellow and the member who first began work to form a chapter in the 1990s, was on hand to see his dream reach fruition.

NEBB Donates $10,000 to ASHRAE Research

MONTREAL—NEBB donated $10,000 to ASHRAE Research at its 2013 NEBB Annual Conference in Montreal. NEBB’s donation continues the long tradition of NEBB support for ASHRAE research. The donation will help fund research projects, RP-1245, “Determine the Effects of Duct Fittings on Air Velocity Measurements” and RP-1748, “Measuring Air-Tightness of Mid- and High-Rise Non-Residential Buildings.” ASHRAE Golden and Platinum Circle Levels are made up of investors who contributed $10,000 or more to ASHRAE Research. These investors contributed more than 10% of the total amount of funds collected for research.


Call for Papers for Developing Economies Conference

  Papers are being sought for a conference focused on the design, construction and operation of buildings in developing economies. Organized by ASHRAE and the Philippines Chapter, the "Efficient, High Performance Buildings for Developing Economies" Conference will take place April 24–25, 2014, in Manila, Philippines. It is co-sponsored by the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) and endorsed by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO). Abstracts (400 or less words in length) are due July 12, 2013. If accepted, papers are due Oct. 18, 2013.

Papers Sought for 2014 ASHRAE Annual Conference
  ASHRAE is seeking papers for the 2014 Annual Conference in Seattle. The 2014 Conference will address broad topics in the application of technology to practice, specific applications in ground source heat pumps, O&M and indoor environmental quality, as well as new reports on research taking place worldwide. It will feature a Research Summit. Papers for the Research Summit will report on HVAC&R research with particular emphasis on high-performance building design and its role in a clean energy economy. The 2014 ASHRAE Annual Conference will be held June 28–July 2.

The ASHRAE Bookstore.

ASHRAE, in partnership with Techstreet, has launched a newly redesigned ASHRAE Bookstore. The website offers enhanced usability and navigation that quickly and easily connects engineers, librarians and technical professionals to ASHRAE tools on HVAC&R, green building design and more.

The new ASHRAE Bookstore features improved search capabilities include new filtering and sorting tools, and a redesigned results page speeds access to important document information. The redesigned product pages give users quick access to product descriptions, history and related products. A range of new format options are being offered, including multi-user PDFs, redline documents, and print and online bundles.

Also, there is a new checkout process that makes purchasing more intuitive, with enhanced ordering and payment preferences for faster checkout.
