2014 Refrigeration Handbook to be Mailed in June
The 2014 ASHRAE Handbook—Refrigeration will begin mailed to members in June. The Refrigeration volume covers the refrigeration equipment and systems for applications other than human comfort. The 51 chapters in this volume include information on cooling, freezing, and storing food; industrial applications of refrigeration; and low-temperature refrigeration. “The 2014 ASHRAE Refrigeration Handbook continues to provide the practicing refrigeration engineer with the data and information necessary to safe and efficient processing and storage of food and pharmaceuticals but the Handbook is evolving,” said Dan Dettmers, volume chair. “With the industry’s growing interest in the category of ‘natural’ refrigerants, the dedicated technical committees have updated the Handbook chapters on ammonia and carbon dioxide refrigeration systems."

New Spreadsheet, Webinars to Promote RTU Efficiency
| ASHRAE is part of an ongoing project to promote rooftop unit efficiency. The Advanced RTU Campaign is collaboration between ASHRAE, the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Better Buildings Alliance. The purpose of the campaign is to promote adoption of high efficiency rooftop unit (RTU) technologies by increasing building owner, manager, and contractor access to useful resources and tools. On April 15, ARC technical experts will conduct a webinar to introduce the RTU Inventory Spreadsheet and explain how it helps building owners/managers track and maintain their air conditioning equipment. On May 20, a webinar will be presented to teach participants how contractors and building owners/managers can use the RTU Comparison Calculator to compare RTU options and justify high-efficiency units. Participants will have time to provide opinions on how the calculator can be improved to help the decision process easier to navigate. |
