ASHRAE is offering the new Improving Existing Building Operation training on August 18–19, 2016 at Headquarters in Atlanta. This interactive course provides the fundamental and technical knowledge for the proper operation and maintenance of existing HVAC systems to maximize building performance. Modeling Conference Set

The technical program has been set for the ASHRAE and IBPSA-USA SimBuild 2016: Building Performance Modeling Conference., Aug. 10-12, 2016, Salt Lake City, Utah.  Early bird registration ends July 11, and hotel reservations are due July 15.  Some 100 speakers present practical applications, case studies and papers on simulation, research, and a deeper dive into current technology.  Learn more >>
 


2016 Ventilation Standards

First published in 1973 as Standard 62 and widely updated for 2016, ASHRAE Standards 62.1 and 62.2 are the recognized standards for ventilation system design and acceptable IAQ in commercial and residential buildings. Both Standards have undergone extensive scope changes and are intended to be used for calculations for code review and physical operation. This edition also includes a major change to the scope of the standard.

ASHRAE Journal

The International Olympic Committee began requiring environmental awareness as part of all Olympic Games in 1994. The Rio 2016 Olympic Games in August is the latest example of the benefits gained by using these strategies. This month’s cover story discusses how ASHRAE engineers and volunteers helped provide commissioning and HVAC&R design services for the Summer Olympic Games Aug. 5-21. Other articles include analyzing big data for buildings and mission critical building automation systems.

2017 Call for Programs

Seminar, forum and workshop proposals, due Aug. 8, are being accepted for ASHRAE’s 2017 Winter Conference in Las Vegas, NV. New tracks include resiliency, water-energy nexus, industrial buildings and life safety, and mission critical facilities. Rapidly advancing technology coupled with the speed of a changing climate is significantly altering design conditions, creating problems for today’s ASHRAE members. The conference seeks to address those problems.

STBE NOW LISTED IN JCR

ASHRAE’s archival research journal, Science and Technology for the Built Environment (STBE), which offers  comprehensive reporting of original research in science and technology, has been accepted for inclusion in Thomson Reuters Journal Citation ReportsTM (JCR), the recognized authority for evaluating journals. Its Impact Factor for 2015 has also been updated. Learn More >>
 


NEW ANSI ACCREDITATIONS

Three ASHRAE certifications have received accreditation from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), joining the High Performance Building Design Professional (HBDP) certification that was accredited last year. Accreditation was approved May 23 for ASHRAE's Building Energy Assessment Professional (BEAP), Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) and Commissioning Process Management Professional (CPMP) under International Organization for Standardization (ISO)/ International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 17024:2012.
