Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA)

All ASHRAE members age 35 and younger (except student members) are automatically considered YEA members, and qualify to take advantage of programs and services geared specifically to young professionals.

To ensure a bright future for ASHRAE and the industry, the Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA) Committee was developed to create programs and develop a path for our young professional members. YEA members have access to leadership development weekends, scholarships for continuing education courses, and more.

SmartStart

SmartStart is a 3 year program that allows Student members to transfer to Associate grade membership at a rate that is recent-graduate friendly. Student members who are graduating soon or have recently graduated should complete the SmartStart form to participate.

Developing Economies Program

The Developing Economies membership program provides a reduction in dues for applicants and renewing members who reside in countries categorized as “Low Income” and “Lower Middle Income” by the World Bank List of Economies statistics.

Qualifying applicants and renewing members will be automatically notified and given the option to participate in the program when joining and renewing online.

Program benefits include:

  • Digital subscription to the ASHRAE Journal, and HPB Magazine
  • Member access to the Technology Portal and Science and Technology for the Built Environment
  • ASHRAE Handbook in PDF (except Affiliate and Student grade participants)
  • Discounts on conference registrations, Bookstore purchases, and continuing education courses

Developing Economies Program


CIBSE/ASHRAE Route to Membership

CIBSE has a fast track route for individuals that hold the Member grade with ASHRAE.

There is no engineering practice report or interview required when applying through this route. Upon submission, your application will be checked and then submitted to the next available Membership Panel meeting for assessment. Applications are accepted year-round.

To be eligible, applicants also need to have professional registration with a recognized Engineering authority. For application forms and a list of recognized authorities, please visit www.cibse.org/ashraemember.

Institute of Refrigeration (IOR) eAffiliate Program

ASHRAE members can join the Institute of Refrigeration (IOR) as an eAffiliate member with a special discounted partner membership fee. The price for this is just £20, which is equivalent to $25 USD (normally around £90 / $115 USD per year). The benefits of signing up for an IOR eAffiliate membership subscription include:

  • More than 300 technical bulletins on refrigeration topics downloadable from the IOR website, including Safety Codes of Practice for the four refrigerant groups (normally retailing at $61 USD ( £48) each for non-members.)
  • New refrigerant eLearning and training materials for alternatives such as carbon dioxide, flammables and ammonia.
  • Invitation to participate in professional development technical webinars (certificates awarded.)
  • Regular news and updates on refrigerant developments from IOR.
  • Ability to book and attend UK-based IOR conferences at member discount rates.
