Artificial intelligence (AI) policy: ASHRAE prohibits the entry of content from any ASHRAE publication or related ASHRAE intellectual property (IP) into any AI tool, including but not limited to ChatGPT. Additionally, creating derivative works of ASHRAE IP using AI is also prohibited without express written permission from ASHRAE.

Registration Now Open for 2024 ASHRAE Decarbonization Conference 

ATLANTA (June 14, 2024) – Registration is now open for the 2024 ASHRAE Decarbonization Conference: Decarbonizing Existing Tall Buildings, October 21-23, 2024 in New York City. Supported by New York State and NYSERDA, this three-day conference will focus on replicable decarbonization technical solutions for existing large and tall buildings, addressing the unique challenges posed by the density of construction in this sector.

“The density and complexity of tall buildings make them one of the most challenging sectors to decarbonize,” said 2023-24 ASHRAE President Ginger Scoggins, P.E., Fellow ASHRAE. “This conference will provide valuable insights and solutions that can be applied to decarbonize these structures effectively.”

The ASHRAE Decarbonization Conference will feature five technical tracks with sessions and speakers offering solutions for large buildings. Here is a preview of the tracks and sessions:

Tracks:

  • Policy, Codes and Standards
  • Tall Building Technology Issues & Solutions
  • Implementation of Projects/Getting Projects Done
  • Cold Climate Design Solutions & Challenges
  • Decarbonization Assessments

Sessions:

  • Updates on Building Performance Standards around the US, driving existing building decarbonization and performance improvement
  • Case studies on tall building decarbonization around the US and abroad
  • Tall building technology issues and solutions, including heat recovery, thermal storage and demand flexibility
  • Large Building Decarbonization Trends in Japan

Featured speakers include Rohit Aggarwala, New York City Chief Climate Officer and Commissioner of Environmental Protection, who will discuss New York City’s ambitious building performance policy implementation, and David Partridge, Chair of the Governing Board for the United Kingdom Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard, who will compare the UK Standard with other related policies worldwide.
