This course provides the minimum requirements for the design, construction, and plans for operation of high-performance green buildings, including new buildings and their systems, new portions of buildings and their systems, and new systems and equipment in existing buildings.

To comply with the stringent building codes in the Middle East region, ASHRAE developed the training to provide the goals of establishing mandatory criteria in all topical areas, providing simple compliance options, and the complement of green building rating programs of Standard 189.1. Once adopted, either directly or indirectly through model codes, the training provides the blueprint to design and sustain high-performance green buildings of the future.

Standard 189.1 provides a total building sustainability package for those who strive to design, build, and operate green buildings. The major goals of the standard are to provide simple compliance options for green buildings and to establish mandatory criteria in all topic areas: site sustainability, water use efficiency, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and the building’s impact on the atmosphere, materials, and resources.

Course Objectives:

    • Recognize the importance of developing a code-intended standard for design of high-performance green buildings.
    • Identify mandatory provisions in Standard 189.1 - Design for High Performance Green Buildings to increase awareness of the intent of the standard.
    • Identify the two compliance path options (Prescriptive and Performance) and their associated provisions in Standard 189.1
    • Design for High Performance Green Buildings to increase awareness of the intent of the standard.
