Artificial intelligence (AI) policy: ASHRAE prohibits the entry of content from any ASHRAE publication or related ASHRAE intellectual property (IP) into any AI tool, including but not limited to ChatGPT. Additionally, creating derivative works of ASHRAE IP using AI is also prohibited without express written permission from ASHRAE.

Richard Karg, Life Member ASHRAE

Biography

Mr. Karg is the president of Residential Energy Dynamics. He taught economics at New Hampshire College and spent ten years as a building contractor before beginning his long career in the residential energy field as a consultant and trainer. Since 2003, Mr. Karg has trained hundreds of installers, designers, and manufacturers on the topics of ventilation and IAQ.

He has been a voting member of the ASHRAE 62.2 committee since 2007 and was appointed to the Residential Buildings Committee in 2017, serving as its chairperson from 2021 – 2022. In early 2020 he was appointed to the ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force as part of ASHRAE’s response to COVID-19. He has been a member of the board of directors of the Healthy Air Research and Certification Authority (related to the Home Ventilating Institute) since 2016.

Mr. Karg has received many acknowledgements of his outstanding leadership in the industry – awarded Phillip C. Hastings award from Efficiency Maine and induction to the Building Performance Institute (BPI) Hall of Fame, to name a few. Since 2019 Mr. Karg has served on the Buildings, Infrastructure, and Housing Working Group of the Maine Climate Council, helping develop the plan to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Maine by 2050, while increasing the resiliency of Maine’s buildings.
