My decision to pursue a career in HVAC&R was driven by a passion for problem-solving and energy efficiency, inspired by influential engineers in China, including my father. With a strong foundation in math and science, I pursued a degree in Civil Engineering, specializing in HVAC at Tianjin University, followed by a master’s in Thermal Energy. This education equipped me to enter the HVAC&R field with a focus on optimizing building energy use and sustainability.
Early in my career, I joined ASHRAE, recognizing it as a vital organization for professional development. ASHRAE has provided me with invaluable opportunities to connect with industry leaders, participate in technical committees, and contribute to advancing standards. My involvement has steadily grown, leading me to serve on the Executive Committee for the Center of Excellence on Building Decarbonization and as Chair of the Building Performance Standards Committee. Being named an ASHRAE Fellow and Distinguished Lecturer has been a highlight of my career, allowing me to share my expertise globally and engage in critical discussions about energy efficiency.
Currently, as Building Sector Manager at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, I oversee PNNL’s research portfolio focused on building decarbonization, energy efficiency, and grid integration. ASHRAE has been instrumental in my career growth, enabling me to influence global standards and contribute to a more sustainable future.
