From a young age, I was captivated by engineering with a natural passion for Maths and Physics. However, like many, I was unaware of the world of building services engineering. It wasn’t until I completed my BEng in Mechanical engineering and embarked on my DPhil at Oxford university-focused on optimising HVAC operations- that my supervisor, Prof. Dexter, opened my eyes to the built environment and introduced me to ASHRAE, with UK Midlands section president – Steve Gill- welcoming me to my first section meeting; that moment ignited a career-long dedication.
Since then, I have been driven to inspire my students to get involved in this field. At Loughborough university, I’ve had the privilege of developing and shaping the MSc in Net zero Building Services Engineering, a programme deeply connected with industry. Our students’ projects are judged and supported by industry professionals, and we are proud participants in the ASHRAE Net Zero Setty Family competitions. Our achievements speak volumes- ASHRAE global society student competition victories in 2019, 2020 and 2023 and the ASHRAE Building EQ competition win in 2022.
We are incredibly fortunate to have an ASHRAE chapter in UK, part of ASHRAE European Region XIV. Through ASHRAE, my leadership skills and professional network have flourished, all thanks to incredible opportunities and investment the organisation offers.
I urge everyone to get involved-this work has the power to transform communities and safeguard the future of our environment. Let’s make a lasting impact together.
