Every day I get to have an impact:
- Reducing the world’s energy use and environmental emissions
- Making buildings sustainable and resilient
- Being part of the industry that kept vaccines cold and led the world out of a global pandemic
- Lowering the 40% of food that spoils between the field and our forks.
- Most importantly, keeping people safe and healthy.
…when I share these with anyone I meet, invariably they say, “That’s cool.”
Might I have:
- Had more promotions? Undoubtedly, but for me positive effects are better than titles.
- Earned more? Maybe, but our family will be just fine.
- Had a broader network? I don’t think so… ASHRAE networks including governments and association partners are global, diverse, expansive and extensive.
- Been more satisfied? Not a chance. I have the best job I can think of, had significant impacts, learn every day, and our family is greatly blessed from all perspectives.
Oh yeah, I’ve been an engineer for 43 years, in an industry deemed “essential”” during the pandemic, have real friends throughout the world, the same wife for 40 years, get to learn every day, and positively impacted our world.
