Herman and Dorothy Behls Travel Award
Application:
Applications are due by October 15th annually and will require:
- Total budget for the trip. If the cost exceeds $1,100, applicants should identify how the additional funding will be achieved (by applicant, student branch, local chapter, or other funding source).
- ASHRAE membership number (if you have one).
- List of any past involvement with ASHRAE at the chapter or student branch level.
Background Information:
These grants will help send student members to the ASHRAE Winter Conference and Student Program.
The recipients of the travel grant will be exposed to many activities at the Winter Conference:
- Student Activities Committee meetings (non-executive session)
- The Student Program
- Seminars
- AHR Trade Show
- Technical Committees
- Governance
Preference will be given to ASHRAE student members who have promoted ASHRAE and demonstrated leadership skills at the university level, student branch level, or chapter level.
Successful applicants will be notified by TC 5.2 and members from the ASHRAE Illinois Chapter by November 15th. They will appoint a liaison to assist the applicant in selecting activities to participate in at the Winter Conference. The liaison will meet the student upon arrival to review the agenda, prepare a schedule based on the applicant’s interests, and provide orientation.
The following is an example schedule.

- Evening: free time (YEA Hospitality, President’s speech)
