Artificial intelligence (AI) policy: ASHRAE prohibits the entry of content from any ASHRAE publication or related ASHRAE intellectual property (IP) into any AI tool, including but not limited to ChatGPT. Additionally, creating derivative works of ASHRAE IP using AI is also prohibited without express written permission from ASHRAE.

High School Senior Scholarships

Annual Application Deadline: May 1
Scholarships are awarded for the academic year following the application deadline and beginning with the fall semester. 

Four one-year $3,000 scholarships available to high school seniors about to enter full time into their first year of college in a
pre-engineering, engineering, or engineering technology program leading to a bachelor’s degree in a course of study that traditionally has been a preparatory curriculum for the HVAC&R profession.  Applicants must be high school seniors with a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a scale where 4.0 is the highest and/or a class standing of no less than the top 30% and accepted into an engineering, pre-engineering, or engineering technology program at a post-secondary educational institution that meets at least one of the following criteria:

  • the institution hosts a recognized ASHRAE student branch ASHRAE Student Branches
  • the program is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) www.abet.org or the Partnership for Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration Accreditation (PAHRA)  
  • the program is accredited by an agency outside the USA that is a signatory of The Washington Accord or The Sydney Accord
  • the program is accredited by an agency that has a signed Memorandum of Understanding with ABET.

Instructions and Application

Applications and the following documents must be submitted on or before the application deadline to receive consideration:

  1. Official transcript of grades. Transcript must either be mailed, sent through an online electronic transfer service, or directly from your registrar’s office on your behalf. Photocopies will not be accepted.
  2. Letter of admission to a post-secondary educational institution
  3. Three signed letters of recommendation as follows: one from an instructor or school advisor, one from a current or past employer, and one from another character reference (other than a family member).
