Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) – $40

Tour the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) to discover how HVAC&R, window technology, natural lighting, controls, and other building technologies were integrated to produce one of the most energy efficient buildings for hot, humid climates. Also find out what’s new in alternative energy sources and energy saving technologies. FSEC is the largest and most active state-supported renewable energy and energy efficiency research, training, testing and certification institute in the United States.

FSEC’s mission is to research and develop energy technologies that enhance Florida’s and the nation's economy and environment, and to educate the public, students, and practitioners on the results of the research. Research at FSEC is based on field monitoring, computer simulations and controlled experiments in highly instrumented laboratories. FSEC’s 20-acre state-of-the-art research campus is composed of a number of buildings that provide office, laboratory and test facilities. The FSEC tour is a walking tour, and participants should wear comfortable shoes.

Epic Universe District Energy Plant – $40

Join us for a sneak peek technical tour of Orlando Utility Commission’s brand-new central cooling plant at Universal Orlando’s newest theme park Epic Universe, the highly anticipated new theme park opening in 2025. The Universal Plant began construction in 2022 and will serve Universals’ newest park with 20,000 tons of capacity using variable primary pumping with parallel/series counterflow chiller design and eight duplex centrifugal chillers.

The central cooling plant is fully automated with the latest generation of building management systems. Sulfuric acid injection is used in the condenser water system to raise the cycles of concentration to reduce water reduction by 25% and wastewater by 70%.

The Epic Universe Central Cooling Plant tour is a walking tour, and participants should wear comfortable shoes. Photography is restricted to inside the plant only. Any tour attendees must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement to participate in this tour at time of registration.
