ASHRAE/IES Standard 202 describes the commissioning process; the roles of the principle agents and stakeholders; and a framework for developing design documents, specifications, procedures, documentation and reports.

The standard describes the general requirements for a training program for continued successful system and assembly performance. Informative appendices provide sample documentation, including checklists, systems manual, reports and training plan.

Guideline 0, The Commissioning Process; Guideline 1.1, HVAC&R Technical Requirements for the Commissioning Process; and Guideline 1.5, The Commissioning Process for Smoke Control Systems, are supplementary guidelines and are available in the ASHRAE Bookstore. They provide specific and detailed information on how to implement the commissioning process for each major building/facility, system or assembly, and for various stages of facility development and operation.
