    Biography

    Doug Cochrane, P.Eng., CDP, Member ASHRAE, LEED® AP

    Mr. Cochrane is currently an independent consultant, after having spent nearly 30 years in equipment sales for Carrier—a major manufacturer of HVAC equipment. 

    Doug is a graduate of Ryerson University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and is a licensed professional engineer in Ontario. He is also a LEED AP and has a certificate in sales development from Humber College. He has also completed the Carrier Basic System Design course and has taken advanced training in rooftops and splits, air handling units, chillers, controls, and system selling. He qualified as a “Train the Trainer” with Carrier and organized their technical development program. Doug started in inside sales and has held additional roles as software coordinator (e20 load estimating and op cost), chiller and applied systems specialist, territory manager, branch sales manager, regional commercial sales manager, and engineering sales manager.

    Doug joined ASHRAE in university and has participated in chapter, region, and society activities ever since. He is a past president of the Toronto chapter, past ARC and regional representative, CRC chair (twice), inaugural RVC for GGAC in Region II, has served on the nominating committee for 6 years, and the Conferences and Expositions committee for 3 years. Additionally, he was the technical chair for the Chicago 2015 conference. Doug is currently a Director-at-Large on the board of directors, is a member of Pub ED Council and is the BOD EXO to the Training & Education Committee, and also sits on the Planning Committee.  He is a past DRC for Region II, and is on TC 9.1 Large Building AC, TC 9.2 Industrial AC, TC 6.7 Solar and other Renewable Energies, TC 2.5 Global Climate Change, TC 2.8 Building Environmental Impacts and Sustainability, a member of Cold Climate Design Guide TRG9, and of the standards appeal board. He Chaired Building EQ in 19-20 and continues to serve on the committee currently as vice chair of the new MTG and member of the business development subcommittee. Doug also chaired the topical conference on Industrial Ventilation in Toronto in June 2022, and was also the General Chair of the Annual ASHRAE society meeting in June 2022—celebrating the Toronto chapter’s 100th anniversary. Doug has helped organize Canada’s federal government ASHRAE Outreach Day in Ottawa since the beginning and has been involved in the provincial day at Queens Park in Toronto from day one. He holds the ASHRAE distinguished service award, the regional award of merit, and the chapter service award. He is also a member of the Training & Education working group of the task force on building decarbonization.
